I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find the right phonics program for a little one who struggles with speech delays. You want something that clicks, something that makes learning to read feel natural and enjoyable rather than frustrating. That’s exactly why I was so excited to try Foundational Phonics—and let me tell you, it has been a game-changer! In my latest Our Sweetie Birds Home video, I shared a flip-through and review of this curriculum, but I wanted to share it here as well!
Why I Love Foundational Phonics
When I first started looking for a phonics program that would work well for speeech-delayed little ones, I knew I would need something simple, something structured but gentle, and most importantly—something that would actually work. Foundational Phonics checked all the boxes and more! Here’s what made me fall in love with it:
- It’s Designed for Emerging Readers – The lessons gently build from letter sounds to blending words, making reading feel like an exciting journey rather than a struggle! Our little one was so excited when she discovered that she could read real words!
- Perfect for Speech-Delayed Kids – My child needed extra support in connecting sounds to words, and this program’s step-by-step approach made all the difference.
- It’s Truly Open-and-Go – I don’t have a lot of extra time for complicated teacher prep, and thankfully, this curriculum contains almost zero prep! The lessons are easy to follow, and provides a wonderful experience for the teacher too!
- Multi-Sensory Learning – This is huge! Especially for speech-delayed little ones. The Mouth Gymnastics has been a huge hit in our home!
A Peek Inside the Curriculum
One of my favorite things about Foundational Phonics is how approachable and engaging it is. In my video, I flipped through the lessons and showed some of the things that made it stand out for us:
- Beautifully Structured Lessons – I love how each lesson builds on the last, reinforcing skills without feeling repetitive or overwhelming.

- Activities – My child thrived with the interactive exercises! They weren’t just memorizing sounds—they were truly grasping them.

- Encouragement for Parents – Teaching your child to read can feel intimidating, but the guidance in this program made me feel confident and supported.
