We are so excited to be sharing one of our favorite 1st grade math curriculums! We just completed the first two light units, and absolutely love how solid, yet gentle CLE’s approach is. We have tried several different 1st grade math curriculums with the goal of finding something that worked with our son’s learning style. We tried the aesthetically pleasing ones with hands-on activities, the ones that had sweet stories woven throughout, and the ones that were strictly hands-on. Nothing held his interest until we tried CLE because as it turned out, he didn’t want the extra “fluffy stuff”. He instead wanted to just do math. Straight up math. Addition, subtraction. That’s it. Once we started CLE, he went from dreading math to actually wanting to do if before anything else! Packed with practice and review, Christian Light boasts an incremental spiral approach in a workbook format. Each lesson incorporates a new concept and is followed by review of previously learned concepts. Written from a Christian worldview, every lesson reinforces Biblical values, which is another reason why we love this curriculum. Let’s take a look at it!
Another thing that we love about this curriculum is the fact that they come in individual light units. The Math 1 has 10 units, and there is nothing more exiting for the kids than to close one book, and open another in a matter of weeks. After every light unit is completed, we typically celebrate it by doing a fun show and tell, or bake a fun treat before moving on to the next unit. Celebrating the small (and big) accomplishments keeps them excited about completing the daily lessons, and it is such a joy seeing them thrive in math!
